Google Corporate Information: Software Principles
In a day and age where software is expected to be buggy, programmers are more concerned with being first to market than they are with being the best to market, and our software choices are similar to that of our politicians -- the lesser of two evils, its comforting to see a company create a philosophy that is both clear and simple.
:: Google Corporate Information: Software Principles
But more than its clarity it the very idea that after decades of being force-fed bad software and inadequate solutions, there may be a company with a long term vision that will win over users by proving these very philosophies.... not just by telling the world about them.
In the future, this philosophy may indeed end up being taken for granted as the status quo, or may end up being the punch-line for many jokes. While impossible to speculate, we can indeed dream, and in so doing I will dream about the software i await to see from the Googlers...
- web browser
- calendar / contact manager / IM (truly unified messaging)
- personal accounting / financial
- operating system (perhaps java-based / machine independent?)
Who knows what else they'll be cooking up, but in any case, I’ll try their beta-better-than-paid-for software. The best things in life really are free.... who knew.
Thanks Google.

Easier Domain Transfers, Hijackings and all that Jazz
Everyday there seems to be new threats, warnings, scams and other miscellaneous activities taking place making it all the more difficult to get a decent days' work out of the way. Now with this new ICANN rule, I have a feeling the domain name game will soon be becoming far more interesting than ever before. I wonder if any 'premium services' will soon begin to appear, leading to additional revenues from companies affiliated with ICANN... not that I'm in any way implying any sort of self interest... as I know that such a thing would NEVER be a factor.
